All the attractions listed are operated by members of the East Midlands Museums Service (EmmS).

Times, prices and other details were supplied by the attractions concerned and were believed to be correct at the time of going to press.  The East Midlands Museums Service cannot be held responsible for any changes or alterations. The address and telephone number printed for each attraction will help you check details, or you can contact the nearest Tourist Information Centre.

EmmS provides a wide range of services and support for museums and heritage attractions in the region.  Representing all types of museums in the six historic counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland, EmmS works closely with the East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (EMMLAC).

[ Museum ] Museums that have this symbol have achieved national standards that cover all aspects of museum work. A Registered Museum

collects, records and preserves evidence of human life and achievement, and
the world about us
uses those collections to help learning, and to promote knowledge and
enjoyment
has access to the expertise needed to care for the collections
carries out these tasks in a way that helps ensure the collections are available
for future generations

For those that wish to give items for permanent preservation, a Registered Museum provides some guarantee that they will be properly cared for and used for the public benefit. However, no museum can collect everything it is offered; each specialises in certain areas or subjects. The East Midlands Museums Service can help potential donors by advising on the most suitable museum, as well as providing advice on which museums in the East Midlands have achieved Registered status, and which are expected to do so.

[ Designated ] Museums that have this symbol have collections which have been Designated as being pre-eminent in their richness and variety. Both Northampton Museum & Art Gallery (the boot and shoe collection) and the National Tramway Museum at Crich have Designated collections.
